Octane is a variable font which plays with weight and width. It is mostly inspired by the « Antique » style but gets a modern twist from its playful variable aspect.
Its name refers to the organic chemistry compounds involved in automotive fuels which can shrink or lengthen the same way a variable typeface does. The font was initially created to fit with any car design by Pininfarina. The famous automotive designer whose works span across an immense variety of vehicles had to match its single typeface with multiple options.
Octane’s strong contrasts brings a more dramatic dimension to its design mostly when it comes to extended styles. The sharp ending adds a distinctive feature that makes Octane a typeface which can be used equally as display or labour text.
