OBO Classic is a display interpretation of a traditional Old Style Serif. Every character maps to a 1×1 square, enabling horizontal, vertical, or mixed settings. This constraint creates unusual proportions compared to what we expect from classic serifs, and results in a monospaced design. While each letter feels conventional in isolation, the overall texture feels surprisingly contemporary.

A few punctuation and special characters are half-width for better spacing, and word space width can be adjusted via OpenType stylistic sets. For horizontal-only settings, kerning can be enabled for a cleaner texture across words and phrases.

Best set large, OBO Classic is most at home in editorial and display contexts. The character set includes a series of icons, some rendered as pixel graphics, adding contrast to the typeface's traditional origins.
